The son of Jerry Falwell, the disgraced former head of Liberty University, has been ousted from his position as vice president of the school eight months after his father was removed as university president for improper behavior and questions on his use of school finances.
Politico reports that Trey Falwell, Jerry Falwell’s oldest son, was “no longer employed” by Liberty University, a school spokesman said, although he confirmed the separation happened within the last week. He did not specify if Falwell left voluntarily or if he was fired. He also did not answer questions if Jerry Falwell’s younger son, Wesley, or Jerry Falwell’s daughters-in-law were still employed by the school.
Jerry Falwell fell out of favor at the university his father founded after photographs of him drinking on a boat with a female aide, who was reportedly pregnant, were posted online. He had early come under scrutiny when photos of him at a nightclub were posted online. A self-described Christian university, Liberty enforces strict student and faculty behavior guided by their self-designed “Christian values.”
Falwell was also found to have been directing millions of dollars in contracts to companies owned by, either fully or partly, by himself, members of his family, or his friends. The move to remove Trey Falwell is further evidence that Liberty continues to separate itself from the Falwell family.
