“Since his presidency ended, Donald Trump has issued more statements lying about the 2020 election than statements talking about any other subject,” reports CNN. “Forty-three of the 132 post-presidency statements Trump had issued through June 9 included a lie about the election. That’s about 33%. These lies range from vague claims that the election was “stolen” and “rigged” to specific false assertions about what happened in various states he lost.”
“Trump’s second-favorite post-presidency topic has been bashing fellow Republicans. About 24% percent of Trump’s post-presidency statements have castigated other members of his party – sometimes for failing to support his dishonest attempt to get the election overturned, other times for generally failing to be sufficiently loyal to him.”
Republicans are also having a hard time landing any effective blows on the Biden administration. So far only about 10% of Trump’s post-election loss statements have referred to Biden’s policies, and given that Biden is an older white guy who is married to an attractive white woman, GOP propagandists are finding they cannot rely on the latent racism that fueled their attacks on the Obamas.
Republicans have attempted to hype recent news on inflation, but there’s a strong pushback from economic observers that recent inflation may be seen as a “return to norm”, as prices were substantially depressed during the Trump pandemic shutdown, and the Fed needs to increase interest rates anyways to bring them closer to historic norms. Conservative claims that 4.5% annual rate of inflation when interest rates are near zero is the equivalent of the 41% daily inflation rate seen during the Weimar Republic are rightfully being brushed off as irate bullshit.
The circular firing squad in the GOP is a result of the party’s split between ardent Trump loyalists who openly embrace the party’s slide towards fascism, and monarchists who want to turn their corporate sponsors into the modern equivalent of Kings, but without the violence and genocide that comes from an openly fascist government. Biden’s quiet competence, and steady rooting out and exposure of GOP crimes is reminiscent of the slogan “there’s nothing more dangerous than an honest man”, and the GOP just doesn’t know how to deal with that.
