The US Supreme Court will hear the case filed by the House Judiciary Committee on the release of redacted portions of the Mueller report as well as grand jury testimony, the Court announced in after yesterday’s private conference.
Because the case will be heard during the Court’s fall session, the case’s decision will likely not be issued until after the November election.
The case brought by the Judiciary Committee, headed by Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-NY), argues that the House should have access to redacted information and secret grand jury testimony to determine if more impeachment charges against President Trump are warranted.
Trump was impeached by the House in December 2019 on two counts, Obstruction of Congress and Abuse of Power, but was acquitted in the subsequent Senate trial.
Lawyers for the House argued before the Supreme Court that the redacted and grand jury information could shine light on other issues the House is currently investigating, including favorable treatment by the White House and the Justice Department of Trump associates Roger Stone and Michael Flynn, key players in the Mueller Special Counsel investigations.
