The Washington Football Team, using a generic name for the NFL franchise after dropping a racist mascot, has hired 38-year-old Jason Wright to be team president, the first Black and the youngest person to hold the position for the franchise, the Washington Post reports.
A former NFL running back for the Atlanta Falcons, Cleveland Browns and Arizona Cardinals, Wright became a partner with consulting company McKinsey & Co. after his professional football career.
Wright is a graduate of Northwestern University, where he graduated with a double major in psychology and pre-medicine.
The Washington Football Team announced earlier this year that after decades of pressure, it would drop its use of a mascot demeaning to Native Americans. It will go without a nickname for the upcoming year while it goes through a process to select a new one.
