While spending time with then-Vice President Joe Biden for research on her script for the HBO comedy series Veep, starring Julia Louis-Dreyfuss, UK-born comedian Georgia Pritchett heard an interesting story from Biden’s late mother about her attitude toward Albion, the Guardian reports on an excerpt from Pritchett’s upcoming biography. Per Pritchett, Biden went on at length over how much Catherine “Jean” Finnegan-Biden “hated the English. His parents were Irish and she had written several poems about her hatred of the English. He went off to find them and returned with hundreds of poems describing how God must smite the English and rain blood on our heads.”
Biden also told Pritchett that when his late mother – who died in 2010 – stayed in a hotel Queen Elizabeth had once stayed in, Finnegan-Biden “was so appalled that she slept on the floor all night, rather than risk sleeping on a bed that the Queen had slept on.” There are, of course, worse things that could be done to a hotel bed a national leader once slept in, specifically if that leader is Barack Obama and that hotel is in Moscow. There’s even supposedly a video of these worse things.
