Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi addressed the backlog of legislation being held up by the Senate while celebrating “the most diverse caucus in history, with 60% women, minorities or LGBTQ members.”
Reflecting on the long time success that began under the leadership of President Obama and Vice President Biden, Pelosi said, “In that spirit, we come together now, not to decry the darkness, but to light a way forward for our country. That is the guiding purpose of House Democrats: fighting for the people.”
The House, Pelosi noted, has passed bills to protect or advance voting rights, health care, Dreamers’ rights, women’s rights, the women’s right to choose, and efforts to reduce gun violence, among many other policies.
“Who is standing in the way?” Pelosi asked in an ongoing refrain. “Mitch McConnell and Donald Trump.”
“As Speaker of the House, I’ve seen Donald Trump’s disrespect for facts, for working families and for women in particular. Disrespect written into his policies to our health and our rights, not just his conduct,” Pelosi explained. “But we know what he doesn’t: that when women succeed, America succeeds.”
“We will remember in November,” Pelosi promised, touting Biden and Harris as a stonewall to stand against the regression of rights encouraged by Trump.
