Twenty people were killed by lightning strikes in the Indian state of Bihar as monsoon season strikes the world’s second most-populous country.
Since the monsoon season has hit earlier than it’s traditional start, more than 130 people have been killed in lightning strikes in the last ten days.
On June 25th, 83 people were killed by lightning across India.
In the United States, an average of 51 people have been killed annually by lightning over the past 20 years. In 2018, 2,300 people were killed in India by lightning strikes.
