A heatwave is sweeping the midwestern United States with officials advising residents to stay indoors and remember to stay hydrated, one day after heavy winds and storms caused blackouts in many parts of Ohio, where 350,000 remain without power, as the Associated Press reports.
The heat index may reach as high as 105 degrees in Illinois and Indiana along with parts of Minnesota, Iowa, Michigan and Ohio, the National Weather Service predicted from Tuesday through Wednesday night.
At Yellowstone National Park, 10,000 visitors were ordered to evacuate as rains caused massive flooding, knocking bridges and roadways and closing some entries into the park. The Yellowstone River swelled as snowmelt combined with rainfall to overwhelm the waterway.
