In one of those “does he really understand what he’s saying?” moments, New York republican Congressman Lee Zeldin shared stories about how President Trump did him, a fellow republican, favors to speed up delivery of needed PPE and rushed test results through the system for his district in a display of political cronyism.
“During a once in a century pandemic, an unforeseeable crisis, sent to us from a far away land, the president’s effort for New York was phenomenal,” Zeldin claimed.
[Fact Check: The coronavirus pandemic wasn’t “unforeseeable”; the Obama Administration left a detailed guide–literally known as “the Pandemic Playbook”–to help the new Administration deal with such an crisis, but the Trump Administration ignored it. Also, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo spoke during daily press briefings about the difficulty in getting PPE and ventilators to hospitals early in the crisis. And the “far away land” Zeldin refers to is the UK, from which tourists infected with coronavirus came, leading to the outbreak in New York.]
