Trump International Hotel Vancouver closes, files for bankruptcy

The operators of the Trump International Hotel in Vancouver, British Columbia has closed the hotel and filed for bankruptcy, CTV News reports. The hotel was one of six worldwide that bore the Trump brand.

Located in a prime location downtown, the hotel opened in 2017, 39 days after Donald Trump was inaugurated as President of the United States. The 147-room property had a 6,000 square foot spa and 15,000 square feet of meeting space.

The naming rights for the hotel were a point of contention even before Trump assumed office.

“Trump’s name and brand have no more place on Vancouver’s skyline than his ignorant ideas have in the modern world,” the mayor in 2015, Gregor Robertson, wrote.
