In the most on-brand moment of the Trump Regime’s frivolous cruelties, the Associated Press reports that Border Patrol agents arrested 48 year-old Luis Manuel Aviles as he stepped out of his home in Key West, Florida on Saturday, just days before his son, US Navy sailor Joshua Aviles, returned home from his nine-month-long deployment aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln.
“Having a family member in the military is not a free pass to violate our nation’s laws,” DHS said Sunday, adding that the Trump administration “does not pick and choose which laws to enforce.”
Aviles has a valid work permit, per the AP. There’s no reason to arrest or deport him.
A Charleston County, South Carolina house described as “log cabin style” burned to the ground on Saturday night, officials with the St Paul’s Fire District told WCBD. “Crews immediately went to work in a defensive mode, establishing tender shuttle operations to maintain an adequate water supply,” the fire department said in a statement, adding “Once the fire was contained and extensive overhaul operations began, crews transitioned the water supply operation to drafting from an on-site water source, allowing firefighters to continue overhaul operations efficiently.” No injuries were reported.
The other “log cabin,” as in the one you might have expected to read about from the headline, did not burn down. It definitely got smaller though as on Thursday its leader, Ross Hemminger, announced in an op-ed printed by Townhall.com that the Log Cabin Republicans will no longer welcome trans individuals into the group. “The transgender movement has ceased focusing on adults at all – nearly all of their efforts and those of their aligned special interest groups focus on minors,” Hemminger wrote as though hardcore MAGA Evangelicals at the core of the GOP wouldn’t just say the same exact thing about cisgender gay men and lesbian women, that they’re all going to burn in hell together for who they are, regardless of which letter in LGBT they identify as.

Bailey faces a single charge of unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling. His actions, intent, and timing of when he broke into the apartment were not disclosed to the public.

Two things can be true at the same time: One is that Americans don’t want AI data centers in their neighborhoods, spiking utility bills by sucking up electricity and polluting water supplies by cycling it in and out as a sink for the immense heat generated by the processing equipment. The other is that any friction for the American tech industry redounds to China’s benefit as they seek to win the arms race and establish an indefinite state of global dominance in artificial intelligence, so spending a few man-hours here and there stoking the real opposition to the centers could end up paying dividends.
