Harris challenges Trump to cognitive test

In a segment of her interview with CBS’s Norah O’Donnell aired Monday, Vice President Kamala Harris responded to convicted felon former President Donald Trump’s batshit rants about her acuity, saying she would take a cognitive test – and “would challenge him to take the same one.”

“This is what he has resorted to, and I think he actually is increasingly unstable and unhinged and has resorted to name calling because he actually has no plan for the American people,” Harris said.

MAGA Land experiences mood swing

“Democrats don’t know how to laugh” – The top comment on Breitbart’s article “Comedian Tony Hinchcliffe Endorses Trump at Madison Square Garden Rally,” posted at 4:40 PM, well after the news about Hinchcliffe’s racist “comedy” bit had percolated. Even though they embedded a video of Hinchcliffe’s whole set, Breitbart made zero mention of the jokes. Indeed a search of their site with the asshole’s last name turns up just a handful of articles, all of them referring to the controversial lines (which were on a teleprompter and thus definitely vetted by the Trump campaign) were outsourced to wire stories as Breitbart are wont to do when they want to avoid a story.

“Seems like Tony is a DNC plant. No other explanation” – Top comment on the Gateway Pundit’s Monday morning story titled “What a Coincidence? Kamala Announces Puerto Rico Policy on Sunday as Comedian at Trump Rally Slanders Puerto Rico ‘Land of Garbage’ and Cracks Crude Joke about Latinos Just Hours Later” in which founder Jim Hoft does a rundown of Hinchcliffe’s set before writing “So who was the brilliant Trump campaign member who invited Kill Tony on the stage in New York on Sunday? Do they still have a job? Are they that dense? And are we really supposed to believe this was just a coincidence after President Trump has made such amazing inroads with Latino voters? You can’t help but wonder what’s going on. For the record… I’ve been to Puerto Rico, loved it, and did not consider it a garbage island. So this ‘joke’ surprised me.” Meaning Hoft has no proof but thinks that this was an inside job somehow coordinated with the Harris campaign.

Obviously these were two completely different commenters on two completely different articles on two completely different websites, but damned if we aren’t used to a little more cohesion in the MAGA hive mind. Then again at least they’re being consistent on whether Democrats are to blame.

NATO confirms North Korean troops fighting Ukrainians

From remarks by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte Monday: “Today, I can confirm that North Korean troops have been sent to Russia, and that North Korean military units have been deployed to the Kursk region… The deployment of North Korean troops represents: one, a significant escalation in the DPRK ongoing involvement in Russia’s illegal war. Two, yet another breach of UN Security Council resolutions. And three, a dangerous expansion of Russia’s war. The deepening military cooperation between Russia and North Korea is a threat to both the Indo-Pacific and Euro-Atlantic security. It undermines peace on the Korean Peninsula and fuels the Russian war against Ukraine.”

“This underlines the importance of democracies standing together to uphold our values and to face our shared security challenges, but the deployment of North Korean troops to Kursk is also a sign of [President] Putin’s growing desperation. Over 600,000 Russian soldiers have been killed or wounded in Putin’s war, and he is unable to sustain his assault to Ukraine without foreign support. This is because the Ukrainians are fighting back with courage, resilience and ingenuity.”

Harris 52 – Trump 42 in Nebraska’s 2nd: NYT/Siena poll

A new New York Times/Siena College survey of likely voters in Nebraska’s 2nd District finds Vice President Kamala Harris leading convicted felon former President Trump 54 to 42 percent for the single “Blue Dot” electoral vote that Team MAGA tried to hand to Trump twice this year. Incumbent Republican Senator Deb Fischer leads independent challenger Dan Osborn 48 to 46 percent, in the Second District, where Osborn will absolutely need to run up the score by a very significant margin, he leads 57 to 39 percent. Statewide he’s taking 16 percent of Trump voters in the poll.

The Times/Siena also polled Texas, finding Trump up 51 to 40 percent over Harris, while punchably-faced Senator Ted Cruz leads challenger, Dem Congressman Colin Allred, 50 to 46 percent, with Allred taking a net 6 percent of Trump voters crossing over at 9 percent Trump/Allred to 3 percent Harris/Cruz. Separately an internal poll dropped by Allred’s campaign on Monday finds a tie at 46.

So that Puerto Rican joke, huh?

It’s not clear yet how bad this is. All the Republicans – not to mention the Trump campaign themselves – trying to distance themselves from this Tony Hinchcliffe cocksucker calling Puerto Rico a floating island of garbage might be a good indication that they at least recognize it has the potential for becoming pretty bad for them, but we’re not totally sure how large the blast radius is going to be. Maybe that piece of shit could try apologizing if he’s that worried about it.

Newly-former Team Orange aide blows whistle on “grift and greed”

A Trump campaign aide was fired this month after trying to blow the whistle on what she called “grift and greed” by the convicted felon former president’s top minions – and a “bugging” plot, according to an email obtained by the Daily Beast memorializing the shitshow she experienced.

“The grift and greed I‘ve witnessed makes me sick and I think leadership has been bad stewards of generous donors money,” the former staffer wrote in an email to an ex-coworker colleague after she was abruptly canned on October 18th. “I‘m 100 percent on Team Trump – I want the very best for this campaign, but what I’ve witnessed is greedy and wrong,” show wrote, adding that she’d become convinced that top co-managers Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivita had installed “a listening device in a cut out hole” in a conference room at the West Palm Beach headquarters of the campaign.

The woman, whose name the Beast is withholding, wrote that campaign CFO Sean Dollman “has alluded to the fact that he can’t say things for fear of retaliation… There are napkins stuffed in all the gaps in the conference room now. It seems like they’re willing to go to extremes.”

CBS News poll finds “battleground states” tied at 50 percent

A new CBS News/YouGov national survey finds Vice President Kamala Harris leading convicted felon former President Trump 50 to 49 percent among all respondents and tied at 50 percent from a sub-sample in the “battleground states” which is pretty freaking useless other than to support CBS’s assertion that, “in recent history, Democrats have needed a larger national polling lead to imply competitive Electoral College chances across the battlegrounds because so many of their national votes have come from larger, safely blue coastal states. But this year, at least so far, we see a different pattern in which the battlegrounds track more closely to the national.”

So we can buy that general notion because it tracks with what we’ve seen in more than a few analyses these days, not to mention the polling averages themselves in most of the swing states. On the other hand it’s frustrating as hell given the lack of actual meaning here to that specific finding.

There’s no “battleground” column in the crosstabs. All it says at the bottom in the polling fine print is “Battlegrounds are AZ, GA, MI, NC, NV, PA, and WI,” nothing about oversampling those states, or whether it’s an average of respondents across the seven or a simple weighted percentage. Which leads us to ask what was CBS’s goddamned point here? Why say “the battlegrounds are tied” but no hint as to which one has the more likely path to 270 Electoral College votes? Freaking dicks.

Freedom Caucasians chair tries the old “out of context” line

House Freedom Caucasians chair Maryland Congressman Andy Harris tells the AP he was “taken out of context” when he said Thursday that Republican North Carolina state lawmakers should simply award the state’s 16 Electoral College votes to convicted felon former President Trump because of the devastation wrought by Hurricane Helene in the heavily red western areas of the state.

The context was literally Congressman Harris saying “I mean, you statistically can go and say: ‘Hey, look, you’ve got disenfranchised in 25 counties. You know what that vote probably would have been, which would be, if I were in the legislature, enough to go: Yeah, we’ve got to convene the legislature, and we can’t disenfranchise the voters. But how do you make the argument in other states? I mean, otherwise, it looks like it’s just a power play… With North Carolina, I mean, it’s legitimate. I mean, there are a lot of people who aren’t going to get to vote, and it may make the difference in that state,” in response to “Stop the Steal” conspiracy freak Ivan Raiklin saying that Republican-majority legislatures in North Carolina and other blue/purple states should automatically give Trump a win.

Meaning was very much in context, as Harris was saying Raiklin should pump the brakes on pushing Republicans in New Hampshire, Arizona, Nebraska, Georgia, and Wisconsin to hand them to Trump by default. But with North Carolina was totally in agreement because of “disenfranchisement.”

“So you made that up?”

CNN’s Jake Tapper was not having JD Vance’s fuckery in an interview aired Sunday morning. Seriously can’t remember the last time Tapper ever got this heated (by Tapper standards, he was far less heated than Jaydee). Jake definitely still controlled the flow with Vance, turning up the pressure on the fucker on the matters of John Kelly’s warnings about the Orange God Emperor’s fascist aspirations and violent designs against Americans, effectively getting JD to admit that Trump does plan to establish a Nazi police state.

White people phone banking to white people against MAGA

If you’re a white person and you’re sick and tired of being embarrassed by other white people wearing red hats, we’ve got the phone bank for you!  The Many Over the MAGA is setting up a phone for white people to white people.  Available times run through Election Day.

“The MAGA authoritarian movement and their vision of Project 2025 seek to wreak havoc on our rights and our democracy. And overwhelmingly, the base of the MAGA movement is white people,” the site says.  “Communities of color are turning out their folks and as white people who care, it’s our responsibility to reach our communities and make sure they show up to block Trump.”

It’s cringy, but it’s politically-correct cringy.  Like, we know our demographic is the problem, and part of the problem is they won’t listen to any other demographic but their own, so yeah, we own that our mayonnaise white brethren need to be confronted by their own, in their own Donny Osmond-white voice, to see that it’s okay not to be a racist MAGA and vote for the multi-racial woman.  Which is kinda sad, and as a straight, white male, I feel obligated to take a shift.

An apology to our audience

I’m about to be so honest and candid with the National Zero audience, Mrs. Jack will be shocked I can express things with such openness.  Please bear with me.

A year or so after Spartan started the site with me jumping on days later, Spartan posted a list of disqus-using news-centric websites with the headline saying something like, “Go at ‘em,” implying that our National Zero audience should troll other sites.  The post was one of those times when I would periodically (zealously) chide Spartan behind the scenes, in this case for what in my former-journalist view was unethically directing readers to troll sites through an “astroturf” effort.  We had a responsibility to our readers to not abuse the trust you put in us with what we post “above the fold.”

I violated my own values today, and I’m sorry.  I apologize to each and every reader of this site.  I knowingly used my access to publish an item designed to spur action behind the scenes.  It was an unfair exploitation of the venue and an abuse of my editorial privilege.  I have never done this before with any publication or outlet where I had my name on the masthead, but I did it here and I acknowledge that. I apologize wholeheartedly and I hope you will forgive me.
