“Recession special” making a comeback

Citing several cheeky instances of “recession specials” advertised in Brooklyn and San Francisco, CNBC reports it might soon no longer be a silly ironic half-joke by self-satisfied trendsters.

“What’s very clear from the consumer sentiment data is that consumers are broadly bracing for a slowdown in the economy and a deterioration – not just with inflation, expecting inflation to get worse – but they’re also expecting businesses conditions to deteriorate,” said University of Michigan consumer sentiment czarina Joanne Hsu. “They’re expecting labor markets to weaken and jobless rates to go up. And what you’re seeing with these businesses could be a reaction to that.”

Shady Coloradans taking the fun out of funeral home management

If you’re familiar with the story of Jon and Carie Hallford – two scumbag Colorado funeral home owners who stashed 200 unrefrigerated bodies in a decrepit building whose plea deal was rejected by a judge on Friday, per KKTV – you could be forgiven if you saw the Associated Press‘s headline from the same day, “Colorado governor demands coroner’s resignation after decomposing bodies found in funeral home,” and thought it was about the Hallfords since they were in the news that day.

It wasn’t.

No, this was a completely different funeral home, Davis Mortuary in Pueblo, owned by the county coroner himself, Brian Cotter. The Hallfords’ funeral home, Return to Nature, in Penrose. Cotter was present on Wednesday when investigators showed up at his funeral home and, in a nice touch by the AP, they write that “Cotter asked the inspectors not to enter the room” before they discovered at least 20 bodies stashed in there to rot, some possibly for as long as 15 years.

Now this isn’t anything new, and even though the Hallfords make Cotter look like an amateur they aren’t even the GOATs of American funeral home corpse piling as that title belongs to Ray Brent Marsh’s Tri-State Crematorium in Noble, Georgia. Marsh stashed 339 bodies that he took money to burn and just left them to rot in sheds and trailers in the woods until he was caught in 2002.

Kilmar Abrego Garcia released from jail

From a Friday statement from lawyer Sean Hecker via Fox 17 Nashville: “Today, Kilmar Abrego Garcia is free. He is presently en route to his family in Maryland, after being unlawfully arrested and deported, and then imprisoned, all because of the government’s vindictive attack on a man who had the courage to fight back against the Administration’s continuing assault on the rule of law. He is grateful that his access to American courts has provided meaningful due process.”

Ryan Walters too deranged for Linda McMahon

Linda McMahon, the former CEO of fake fighting circus World Wrestling Entertainment, wife to a credibly suspected sex trafficker, and a complete fraud pretending to be the US Secretary of Education, was worried that appearing with Oklahoma Superintendent of Education Ryan Walters would make her look bad so she had Gov Kevin Stitt fill in for Walters at some bullshit “Returning Education to the States Tour” event in the Sooner State this week, NOTUS reports.

Sources said Walters, who was recently exonerated from wrongdoing in a bizarre porn scandal in a very unlikely manner, is still nevertheless too much of a “distraction” to be around McMahon.

McCarthy begging White House to keep Trump out of California

California Republicans, led by failed former Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy, are gearing up for a hell of a fight against the ballot measure – passed by Dems in the state legislature on Thursday to override the independent redistricting commission in response to the Texas gerrymandering ordered by convicted felon President Trump – but do not at all want the fat bastard’s “help,” CNN reports.

“All you need to do is make sure Donald Trump stays out of California for 10 weeks,” said Golden State Republican strategist Rob Stutzman. McCarthy’s head is in the same place as CNN writes he has “privately signaled to the White House that it would be helpful to minimize Trump’s involvement in the California political fight,” and that, naturally, “a spokesperson for McCarthy did not respond to CNN’s request for comment.” Asking the same question of former California GOP chair Jessica Millan Patterson, also leading the effort, CNN also got no answer. Pressed again, Patterson said simply “It’s pretty clear that Democrats have no other argument. We’re going to make sure that California voters are on to what Democrats have cooked up, and we’re going to continue to push that message out.”

A Los Angeles Times/UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies survey finds that, among all voters the ballot measure is at 48 to 32 percent support, but among respondents who regularly vote in statewide elections overall support for redistricting jumps to 55 percent to 34 percent opposed. Which kind of raises the question of why the fuck McCarthy and the other assholes are even bothering. It’s not like Joe Rogan and Theo Von bros are going to be turning out for this one.

Ukrainian strike attack cuts Russian oil to Hungary, Slovakia

Hungarian and Slovakian officials tell Reuters they’re looking at an at least five day halt to oil flows from Russia after a Thursday night Ukrainian strike on an oil facility cut off the flow to the two pro-Putin European Union countries. It’s the second time this week that Russian oil supplies have been cut to Hungary and Slovakia, after a halt on Monday and Tuesday from another Ukrainian strike.

Hungarian dictator Viktor Orban on Friday posted on Facebook a letter he wrote to convicted felon President Trump about another strike on Russian oil infrastructure from earlier this month in which Orban called the attack a “very unfortunate move.” On the image is a Sharpied response from Donald where he scribbled “Viktor – I do not like hearing this – I am very angry about it.”

Orange Tyrant either did or not not order FBI raid on John Bolton

Fun fact: The raid was over alleged classified material in Bolton’s book from 2020, the same year the Justice Department ran into a brick wall in trying to prosecute him for the same. It also comes just a week after Bolton on CNN said “I thought Trump looked very tired up there. I mean, very tired. Not disappointed. Tired. And we’ll have to reflect on what that means,” after the failed Alaska summit.

Powell warns of “an ongoing inflation problem”

Basically telling convicted felon President Trump to go fuck himself on Friday, Federal Reserve chair Jerome Powell told a crowd of rich guys and economy geeks that “GDP growth has slowed notably in the first half of this year to a pace of 1.2 percent, roughly half the 2.5 percent pace in 2024. The decline in growth has largely reflected a slowdown in consumer spending. As with the labor market, some of the slowing in GDP likely reflects slower growth of supply or potential output. Turning to inflation, higher tariffs have begun to push up prices in some categories of goods. Estimates based on the latest available data indicate that total PCE prices rose 2.6 percent over the 12 months ending in July. Excluding the volatile food and energy categories, core PCE prices rose 2.9 percent, above their level a year ago. Within core, prices of goods increased 1.1 percent over the past 12 months, a notable shift from the modest decline seen over the course of 2024. In contrast, housing services inflation remains on a downward trend, and non-housing services inflation is still running at a level a bit above what has been historically consistent with 2 percent inflation.”

“The effects of tariffs on consumer prices are now clearly visible. We expect those effects to accumulate over coming months, with high uncertainty about timing and amounts. The question that matters for monetary policy is whether these price increases are likely to materially raise the risk of an ongoing inflation problem,” Powell continued, according to his prepared remarks at Jackson Hole.

Kremlin says no Zelensky meeting planned

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov tells NBC News there’s no meeting planned between dictator Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, contradicting convicted felon President Trump’s fantasies of brokering an end to the war within the near or middle term.

“Putin is ready to meet with Zelensky when the agenda is ready for a summit, and this agenda is not ready at all. President Putin said clearly that he is ready to meet provided this meeting is really going to have an agenda, presidential agenda,” said Lavrov, making it clear they’re dragging this out.

Not clear if K$H actually got a judge to approve Bolton warrant

Citing the differences between the New York Times and the New York Post’s reporting on the raid on former Trump National Security Advisor John Bolton’s home in Maryland on Friday morning, the New Republic’s Greg Sargent highlights how the Post does not mention a judge approving a warrant, writing “Federal agents busted into Bolton’s house in Bethesda, Md, at 7 AM in an investigation ordered by FBI Director Kash Patel, a Trump administration official told The Post,” while the Times writes “Asked about the visible FBI presence at Bolton’s home, a spokesperson for the bureau said agents were ‘conducting court-authorized activity in the area.'” Soooooo… Yeah, that’s weird.

Also note how the Post’s timestamp says “7:12 AM” EDT, and thus 12 minutes after the raid began.

New Cracker Barrel logo costs investors $100 million

Cracker Barrel lost almost $100 million in market value after its stock plunged Thursday following the release of a new logo that small-faced propagandist Charlie Kirk blamed on a “key woke reformer in the company was also part of the advisory board at the Human Rights Campaign, which promotes LGBTQ propaganda and scores companies on ‘progressive’ values. The former president of HRC admitted they were obsessed with targeting Cracker Barrel to force through woke reforms.”

Seriously Charlie Kirk fucking tweeted that nonsense about goddamned Cracker Barrel’s logo.

Judge rules Habba serving unlawfully

“The Executive branch has perpetuated Alina Habba’s appointment to act as the United States Attorney for the District of New Jersey through a novel series of legal and personnel moves. Along the way, it has disagreed with the Judges of the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey and criminal defendants in that District about who should or may lead the office. Faced with the question of whether Ms Habba is lawfully performing the functions and duties of the office of the United States Attorney for the District of New Jersey, I conclude that she is not,” writes the Middle District of Pennsylvania’s chief federal Circuit Judge Matthew Brann in a ruling in two cases challenging Habba’s lawful authority to prosecute them. Brann had stepped in from the neighboring jurisdiction to “specially preside” over any potential conflict of interest in the Garden State.
