In the biggest piece of international “Wait…. what???” news of the day, Finland’s Air Force command has quietly phased out using its century-old insignia which predominantly displayed a swastika.
So yeah, you learned two things: first, Finland has an Air Force and second, its insignia contained a swastika for nearly 75 years after the fall of Nazi Germany.
According to the BBC, the symbol was still incorporated into some Finnish uniform designs and decorations after the Second World War, but it was removed from aircraft and vehicles.
While the swastika design itself has been around for millennia, its affiliation with Hitler’s Nazi Germany has resulted in its removal as a political symbol throughout the world.
