New York governor Andrew Cuomo announced that the state had reached its four-month low in hospitalizations due to the coronavirus, with just 743 people in-patient Friday, down 22 from the day before, CBS News reports.
With a continued decrease in cases and widespread testing, Cuomo announced the state could enter into Phase 4 of reopening, allowing low-risk outdoor activities, restaurants at 33% capacity, and live sports without audiences.
According to data from the state’s health department, via CBS reporting, just 100 were on ventilators and 172 were in intensive care units.
New York hit its peak in hospitalizations and critical cases in early April, when more than 18,000 patients were hospitalized. The first state to be hit hard by the virus, New York implemented stringent public health guidelines that successfully “flattened the curve” of new infections.
