With Tropical Storm Isaias rolling its way up the East Coast, one sixth of the population of the United States is currently under a tropical storm warning stretching from North Carolina through Maine, according to the National Weather Service.
Fifty-five million Americans are under threat from the storm, which has maximum sustained winds of 70 miles per hours. The storm made landfall at 11 p.m. ET Monday Night near Ocean Isle Beach in North Carolina.
The storm surge along the coast is reaching one to three feet and rainfall is two to four inches in most places.
The storm has spawned more than a dozen tornadoes on its front edge, including a fatal tornado that hit a trailer park in North Carolina, killing one.
