In an in-depth investigation into the Trump Administration, ProPublica has identified thirteen Hatch Act violations by members of the White House who campaigned while on official duties for the Administration.
In a sign of how much the Trump staff flouts the law, counselor to the president KellyAnne Conway is still on Trump’s White House staff even though her multiple violations of the Hatch Act led to Office of Special Counsel to recommend her termination.
When asked about the OSC recommendation, Conway mocked the law. “Blah blah blah,” she said. “Let me know when the jail sentence starts.”
Only two members of the Obama Administration were cited for violations of the Hatch Act; to date, thirteen members of Trump’s staff have been cited and twelve additional investigations are underway.
Mark Short, the vice president’s chief of staff; Peter Navarro, a senior White House trade and economic advisor; Jared Kushner, senior advisor and Trump son-in-law; Stephen Miller, advisor to the president; and Mark Meadows, White House Chief of Staff, have all been cited and/or have been investigated for using their official positions to advance political positions, not administration policies.
