A Moore, Oklahoma high school student went to school knowing he had the coronavirus, but thought that it was okay because he was asymptomatic, NBC News and KFOR report.
The student was only identified after an anonymous tipster contacted the school. When school officials questioned the student, he told them he believed he didn’t need to be quarantined because, although he had tested positive, he didn’t have symptoms.
The student’s parents says they “miscalculated” the length of the child’s isolation.
Dawn Jones, Moore Public Schools Public Information Officer, told KFOR, “I don’t know why people do things, why they make certain decisions. What they know to be true and inform us of.”
One other student tested positive for the virus, and 22 more were put into quarantine. One sports coach had been quarantined when he tested positive before school opened.
