The parents of the children used in the Trump campaign’s “Racist Baby” ad–which edited video from a popular online post featuring toddlers of different races hugging–have sued the Trump campaign for exploiting their children, according to the Miami Herald.
The video of then-26-month-old Maxwell and 27-month-old Finnegan running to each other and embracing was viewed millions of times via different social media platforms.
The boys parents, Michael Cisneros, Alex Hanson, and Erica and Daniel McKenna, filed a lawsuit against Trump and the ad’s creator, Logan Cook. The altered video took an adorable scene of friendship and tried to turn it a campaign ad which purported to be a clip from a news network.
The Trump campaign put a fake CNN tag on it, with the chyron reading: “Terrified todler [sic] runs from racist baby.” The video text then says: “Racist baby probably a Trump voter.”
Twitter flagged the video as “manipulated media.”
