The monthly jobs report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics showed the economy added just 661,000 jobs in September, a sharp drop off from previous months, and an indicator that President Trump’s claimed V-shaped recovery is stalling.
The report states that the number of people unemployed fewer than five weeks increased by more than a quarter million to 2.6 million, a sign that increased layoffs continue. Long term unemployed, defined as those out of work more than 27 weeks, also increased, by 781,000 to 2.4 million.
Since Trump has been in office, the nation has lost a net 3.76 million jobs. In the last four months of Trump’s term, the nation would have to create an average of 940,000 per month to get to zero by the end of the term.
