Georgia incumbent Republican Senator Kelly Loeffler recently made financial donations to anti-LGBTQ and anti-abortion groups, BuzzFeed News reports.
The wealthiest member of Congress with more than $800 million in assets, Loeffler vowed to donate her $174,000 Congressional salary to charity. She chose to make some of those donations to Covenant Care Adoptions and other “pregnancy crisis” centers, which masquerade as women’s health clinics in order to trap pregnant women seeking abortions into giving birth.
Covenant Care Adoptions also refuses to arrange adoptions for LGBTQ couples, demanding that applying couples be a “husband and wife” and requiring them to vow “homosexual behavior, bisexual conduct and … use of pornography is sinful and offensive to God.”
Loeffler and her husband own a half billion dollar stake in Intercontinental Exchange, the parent company of the New York Stock Exchange. Loeffler has been accused of using her position in the Senate to arrange for stock trades with information she gets in closed Senate hearings to game stock prices, known as insider trading.
Loeffler is in a tight race to win back her Senate seat, which she was appointed to in December 2019 to finish the term of Johnny Isakson, who retired.
