(UPDATE 6:51 p.m.) In a bipartisan vote, the House of Representatives voted to remove Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (Q-GA) from her seats on the Education and Labor committee and the Budget committee.
In a 230-199 vote, eleven Republicans voted with all the Democrats to remove Greene, who has repeatedly threatened members of the Democratic leadership, propagated QAnon conspiracy theories, and promoted debunked election fraud statements.
Greene took to the House floor earlier to grovel for her seats, stating that she believed 9/11 happened, although she didn’t address her claims that the Pentagon attack was a “false flag” operation. Nor did she admit that the school shootings at Parkland, Florida or Sandy Hook, Connecticut really happened, although she said generally, “school shootings happen.”
Greene becomes the first member of the House to be expelled from committee seats since Republican Steve King was removed from his committee seats for asking a New York Times reporter when the terms “white nationalism” and “white supremacist” “became offensive.” King’s reproachment happened in January 2019, and Republicans pulled support from him in the 2020 primaries, which he lost.
The eleven Republicans who voted to remove Marjorie Taylor-Greene (Q-GA) from her committee seats:
- Carlos Gimenez (FL-26th)
- Chris Jacobs (NY-27th)
- John Katko (NY-24th)
- Young Kim (CA-39th)
- Adam Kinzinger (IL-16th)
- Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11th)
- Maria Elvira Salazar (FL-27th)
- Chris Smith (NJ-21st)
- Fred Upton (MI-6th)
- Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-1st)
- Mario Rafael Díaz-Balart (FL-25th)
ORIGINAL POST: QAnon-loving racist Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene has been removed from the House Education and Labor Committee and the Budget Committee.
UPDATE 2/4/2021 3:21 PM EST: The procedural vote passed in the House, which tees up the final vote later on Thursday. We sort of regret this error.
