In his first address to a joint session of Congress, President Joe Biden will tell Americans the nation is “turning peril into possibility, crisis into opportunity,” urging support for infrastructure programs and new family assistance programs, according to the Associated Press.
Biden is expected to make a strong case for passage of the American Families Plan that will provide universal preschool, a monthly stipend for parents, and two years of free community college. The speech is expected to address the troubles caused by the coronavirus pandemic as well as the successes in distribution of the vaccines, giving particular attention to the need to continue with public health protections to prevent a new wave of infections.
“I can report to the nation: America is on the move again,” Biden was set to say, according to excerpts released by the White House ahead of the speech. “Turning peril into possibility. Crisis into opportunity. Setback into strength.”
