A Delta flight from Los Angeles to Atlanta was diverted to Oklahoma City Saturday morning after a passenger assaulted two flight attendants and threatened to explode a bomb on the plane, ABC News reports.
It’s the latest in a string of incidents where passengers are assaulting flight crews, prompting the flight attendants union to call for greater passenger screening and in-flight security. Airlines have reported 2,500 incidents of unruly passengers since the beginning of the year.
Stephon Jamar Duncan assaulted two members of the flight crew while stating he would take down the plane. He was subdued by an off-duty pilot with the help of other passengers on the plane. Upon landing in Oklahoma City, he was taken into custody and taken to a local hospital after complaining about chest pains. He will be held for a psychological evaluation.
