North Carolina-based Novant Health, operator of fifteen medical centers and with more than 35,000 employees, fired more than 175 staff Monday for refusing to get the coronavirus vaccine, WLOS ABC-13 Asheville reports.
Last week, Novant announced they had suspended 375 employees for failing to comply with the vaccine mandate, and those staffers had until Friday to get vaccinated or provide evidence of a medical or religious exemption, or face termination. Nearly 200 employees got their first dose vaccine last week.
Novant has more than 99% of its employees have complied with the vaccine mandate, although a company spokesperson declined to say how many sought religious or health exemptions.
