Lest you forget, the House has another investigation ongoing into the dealings of the Trump administration. And Trump officials continue to obstruct those probes: Trump advisor Peter Navarro has refused to turn over documents subpoenaed by the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis, Reuters reports.
Claiming he’s following Donald Trump’s assertion of executive privilege, Navarro has told the Subcommittee that he will not turn over the documents subpoenaed because Trump told him not to. “It is a direct order that I should not comply with the subpoena,” Navarro said in a letter to the committee, a copy of which was seen by Reuters.
Navarro served on Trump’s pandemic response team, and the House is investigating the steps taken by the Trump administration to address the pandemic which killed at least 420,000 in the US while Trump was in office. Trump has been highly criticized for his failure to direct an effect, cognizant response to the pandemic.
The refusal is “particularly indefensible given that you disclosed many details about your work in the White House, including details of conversations with the former President about the pandemic response, in your recent book and related press tour,” James Clyburn, chairman of the subcommittee, said in the letter.
