When Donald Trump wants to smear someone, who else would he turn to than his prime time consigliere, Fox’s Sean Hannity? In this case, Trump is nervous that Pennsylvania Republican Senate candidate Kathy Barnette will leech enough support away from the Trump-annointed Mehmet Oz that either she or David McCormick, a more “moderate” far-right loon, would win. With Barnette’s popularity rising–because she’s a conspiracy-spouting Republican–Trump’s cabal is nervous. So Hannity pulls out all the stops, which means acknowledging many of Trump’s 2016 campaign tropes were false–like Obama wasn’t born in the US. By implying that Barnette’s old tweets are those of an unstable person, Hannity is admitting Trump is not stable.
