With Ted Cruz packing his bags if it gets too smoky down south, more than 850,000 acres of the Texas panhandle remain on fire, with Republican Governor Greg Abbott declaring all or parts of 60 counties a disaster area, NBC News reports.
The fire and smoke was so bad that it forced the partial evacuation of the Pantex nuclear weapons facility in Amarillo, the only nuclear weapons assembly and disassembly location in the country. A death in the town of Borger has been blamed on the fire, which is currently the second largest in the state’s history and is reportedly only 3% contained.
