Republican New Hampshire state House member Jess Edwards was a bit upset to see a bill outlawing child marriage pass in the chamber last week, the Granite Post reports.
“When we do this to people who are of ripe, fertile age and may have a pregnancy and a baby involved, are we not in fact, making abortion a much more desirable alternative when marriage might be the right solution for some freedom loving couples?” Edwards asked as he railed against the bill, later voting no along with 273 other Republicans in the 400-seat chamber, but failing to stop it from reaching Governor Chris Sununu’s desk as the bill had already cleared the state Senate in March.
