The head of the Russian-installed regional government in Kherson, Ukraine confirmed that the Ukrainian counteroffensive in the region have been successful in liberating a number of villages and pushing Russian forces further back, USA Today reports.
“It’s tense, let’s put it that way,” Vladimir Saldo, the commissioner put in place by the Kremlin said in a television interview, confirming that a village northeast of the city of Kherson were now back in Ukrainian control.
The Kremlin’s version of Baghdad Bob, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov, said in his daily briefing that “with superior tank units … the enemy managed to penetrate into the depths of our defense.” But Konashenkov said Russian troops had fallen back to a defensive position and “continue to inflict massive fire damage” on Kyiv’s forces.
