Chief Judge Beryl A. Howell of the US District Court in Washington, DC reacted less-than-optimistically after lawyer John Pierce asked for a delay until October 2023 for the trial date of his client, John George Todd III, a 33-year-old man from Blue Springs, Missouri, the Kansas City Star reports.
“Oh, come on,” she said, noting that she was proposing a December start date. “This case has been pending now for some time. This court’s going to be very, very busy with what we’re anticipating to be a number of new cases being filed by the government. So I think this case needs to be tried as soon as possible.”
Howell’s comment likely stemmed from the fact that Pierce, while recently retained by Todd, isn’t new to these cases. The Woodland Hills, California lawyer, a darling of the right-wing, has more clients accused of committing crimes during the January 6th Republican-led domestic terrorist attack on Congress, at least 22, than any other single attorney.
