For the third day in a row, American fatalities from the coronavirus topped 1,000 and daily new cases topped 40,000–a continuing pace that, if maintained through election day, would translate to more than 240,000 deaths on Election Day.
According to worldometers.info, Texas, California and Florida led the nation in both daily fatalities and daily new cases reported. Iowa and South Dakota continue to be hotspots for new cases in the past week.
While the US led the world in the number of daily fatalities, the number of new cases in India, the second-most populous nation in the world, continues to spike, with nearly twice as many new cases reported today than the US had.
