Alabama Governor Kay Ivey on Friday fired the state’s director of early childhood education over her refusal to ban a teacher training manual that had “woke concepts” in it, Politico reports.
Barbara Cooper the now-former chief of the Alabama Department of Early Childhood Education wasn’t as concerned over the 881 page-long National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Developmentally Appropriate Practice Book, 4th edition’s minor nods to racial and gender inclusiveness and had to go. “The education of Alabama’s children is my top priority as governor, and there is absolutely no room to distract or take away from this mission. Let me be crystal clear: Woke concepts that have zero to do with a proper education and that are divisive at the core have no place in Alabama classrooms at any age level, let alone with our youngest learners,” said Ivey in a statement, again owning the libs for teaching children to be kind.
