- Clarence Thomas can prove that it was never about the money by paying back Harlan Crow every cent out of his own pocket. But he won’t do that of course, because it was always all about the money.
- Proud Boys, Proud Boys, whatcha gonna do, whatcha gonna do when they come for you… No, seriously, whatcha gonna do, ya punk?
- Propublica showing people what journalists really are; Fox showing people what journalists most definitely are not.
- Fox attendees reportedly got offended by Joe Biden’s jabs at its $787 million payment to Dominion Voting Systems for defamation during the Correspondents’ Dinner; CEO Suzanne Scott dashed out of the ballroom the moment Biden finished. They were also offended that their colleagues in the media reveled in their misery, which shouldn’t surprise anyone given how Fox personalities demean and target those same peers on a daily basis.
- Oh, and Clarence should also include in the refund all the money his wife, Ginni, was paid, too. With interest. What’s the cost for the integrity of the Supreme Court? Oh, and I’m going to re-up this.
- No interest–at all–in the British coronation. I just want the King to announce the Crown is abdicating any official role in government. Keep the royal family as ceremonial figureheads, like the Emporer of Japan, with no national financial support except for official functions.
- “The E. Jean Carroll Tower in Manhattan” has a nice ring to it. Maybe she’ll update the decor. (Yeah, I know it won’t happen, but a guy can dream.)
- There is no law or rule that prevents federal law enforcement from investigating an allegedly corrupt government official, except the President (in office), even when the branch of government the allegedly corrupt official works for won’t take action. The FBI has investigated sitting members of Congress and a vice president. They can investigate a sitting Supreme Court Justice.
- They’ll talk about the shooter being an “illegal immigrant.” They won’t talk about how easily that “illegal immigrant” illegally obtained a weapon of war in a state with gun laws so lax, the NRA moved there as a reward.
- Pistachios are really good. The work makes them more satisfying.
- It’s been so nice not having to review and post clips filled with Carlson’s bile for the past couple of weeks. As much as it’s a relief to me, say a prayer to whatever power you believe in for the work done by the people who had to watch the entire show to pull the clips. They’re truly selfless.
- Just learned some universities’ coaching positions are essentially endowed chairs, and the coaches are referred to as though they hold an academic title, like the Case Chair of Jazz Studies at the Peabody Institute of Music or the Kreiger Chair of Children’s Health and the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. So Harvard has the Frisbee Family Head Coach of Lacrosse.
- So we learned this week that Tucker Carlson’s a racist misogynist asshole. Most people have known this for at least the last six years. And Fox execs probably knew it, too, but he wasn’t a racist misogynist asshole to them.
- Nothing says, “hitting the teen demographic” like having their mom’s favorite daytime chat show host as the MTV Movie & TV Awards emcee. In other news, MTV is somehow still a thing. (Props, tho, to Drew Barrymore for dropping out in support of the WGA.)
- Pistachio picker’s tip: If you’ve got a particularly persnickety pistachio with a seam too small to get your nails between to open, use half a discarded shell as a wedge/lever to pry open the two halves.
- TCM is airing two restored Tom Mix movies from the Silent Era on Monday. (Check local listings.) If you can, please watch/DVR. First, they’re entertaining. Second, watching these films will encourage efforts to preserve/restore more films from early Hollywood. (And in one of the films, 1922’s Sky High, Mix battles smugglers sneaking migrants into the US from Mexico. Chinese migrants, that is. Because immigration is a new problem in the US according to the GOP.)
- Happy Cinco de Mayo! Perhaps it’s no coincidence it’s also National No Pants Day.
