David Walls-Kaufman, a 66-year-old Maryland chiropractor, was sentenced to two months in prison for misdemeanor charges stemming from his participation in the January 6th Republican-led domestic terrorist attack on Congress, but he will face a court again soon in a civil suit for the death of a DC Metropolitan Police officer, the Washington Post reports.
Thirty-five-year-old Jeffrey Smith took his own life days after suffering a brain injury when a domestic terrorist took his baton and swung it against Smith’s exposed face. A group of online investigators poring through photos, online video and security footage identified Walls-Kaufman as one of two men who attacked Smith. Unfortunately, prosecutors determined they did not have enough conclusive evidence to reach beyond a reasonable doubt and opted not to charge him, so Smith’s widow is taking him to civil court where the burden of proof is lower.
