The only republican in the Senate to vote to convict President Trump in the impeachment trial, Utah Senator Mitt Romney announced Tuesday he would support a confirmation hearing on a Trump Supreme Court nominee, Politico reports.
“I intend to follow the Constitution and precedent in considering the president’s nominee. If the nominee reaches the Senate floor, I intend to vote based upon their qualifications,” Romney said in a statement.
Two Senate republicans–Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska–have stated they will not support holding hearing prior to the election. Two more republicans must voice their opposition to hold up any nominee.
