Jesse Watters believes that everything is a conspiracy–except the actual conspiracy to undermine the Constitution Trump led–so he rehashes the old, worn trope of “climate change is a money-making pyramid scheme run by academics.” … because academics studying climate change are just rolling in cash. Oh and that waterfall of climate change money funding academic studies? All that “green money” obviously dwarfs the amount of cash oil companies used to fund bogus academic studies from institutes they funded or to try to discredit legitimate studies’ findings. And they all did that while their internal scientists and leaders understood the risks to the climate and the environment their products caused.
Conservatives tried this with tobacco, claiming the loss of tobacco farms would be the end of agriculture in the US and that the anti-tobacco lobby was a superfunded effort by Big Health, when in fact, it was a smear campaign by Big Tobacco. Sorry, I don’t know who the advertiser after this segment on The Five was: Exxon or the American Petroleum Institute.
