The widow of the late US Senator and GOP presidential nominee John McCain, Cindy, has endorsed Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden, Axios reports.
John McCain, then a recently-released POW who was held at the infamous Hanoi Hilton during the Vietnam War, served as Biden’s military liaison when Biden first joined the Senate. Their friendship endured the bitter partisanship of recent times, before McCain’s death in 2018.
Cindy McCain addressed the 2020 Democratic National Convention and spoke highly and admiringly of Biden. More than 100 former staffers of John McCain signed a letter in August endorsing Biden as well.
President Trump was very open in his disdain of Senator McCain, saying McCain wasn’t a hero because he was a POW. “I like people who weren’t captured,” Trump notoriously said, in one of a number of comments that demeaned American military, KIAs, WIAs and POWs.
