The House Tuesday night passed a stopgap spending bill that will avert a government shutdown at the end of the month and fund the federal government through December 11th, the Associated Press reports.
The bill easily passed the House on a 359-57 vote after much wrangling caused when republicans pulled their support for a version negotiated by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin.
Pelosi reinserted aid for farmers and agriculture. In exchange, Pelosi got expansions of nutrition aid for families whose children would be eligible for meal programs at schools, but cannot get them because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Democrats also secured access for single mothers to receive food stamps and SNAP programs.
