A new liberal advocacy group vowed to spend $10 million in the 2024 and 2025 local school board elections to draft candidates and push voter turnout for vital down-ballot races that shape education policy on a local level, the Daily Beast reports.
Run For Something cofounder Amanda Litman said the group identified “a real hole in the ecosystem on the left, particularly around school and library board races in the electoral space.” These offices have been targeted by conservative groups for years, allowing them to dominate in certain regions where far-right censorship stifles free speech.
“There are some organizations that show up at school and library board meetings to protest or speak up. There are some that train volunteers. There is no one actually asking people to run for school board and then helping them do that,” Litman said. The group will use $3 million to test processes and messages in 2024 local races for school and library boards.
