Asked on Friday by Punchbowl’s Mica Sollener about the MAGA terrorist threats to the families of House GOP members opposed to Jim Jordan, Freedom Caucasians leader and staunch Jordan ally Scott Perry said “There are people out in the world that dislike us and threaten us. That’s nothing new. It’s nothing new to any member of Congress. We all know it. That is another red herring.”
Usage of the term “red herring,” which refers to an intentional distraction, typically used in fiction as in a plot device to mislead the audience, carries with it an implication that this is somehow being orchestrated to derail Jordan’s bid for the speakership. Perry’s a far right conspiracy freak under federal criminal investigation for his involvement in Trump’s post-2020 election coup attempt, so it’s really not a stretch to infer that he thinks Soros or whoever is behind the threats.
