- Trump’s media company has lost about a third of its value in one week, costing Trump $1.5 billion in paper value. That’s the power of the Trump brand.
- The United States is creating jobs at a rate 50% faster under Joe Biden than in any other presidential term. Give the man credit: from the edge of a recession to record job increases and steady GDP growth. Yes, we are demonstrably better off than we were four years ago.
- John Eastman asking a court to delay his disbarment to continue working as a lawyer to pay his legal bills is like a heart surgeon asking the state board to maintain his medical board so he can operate on patients to pay off his malpractice judgments. He’s been sanctioned; He’s not above it. Like so many in Trump’s circle, Eastman never believed he’d experience any repercussions for trying to undermine the Constitution.
- Four years ago today, Donald Trump pushed hydroxychloroquine as the Miracle Anti-Covid Cure. That was before “natural immunity,” injecting disinfectants, and ivermectin rose in popularity. Republicans are intent on proving Darwinism.
- Republicans seem to want to lose Florida now. They’ll find out their agenda is contrary to the will of voters with abortion and pot on the ballot. And Trump’s statements undermining Social Security and other safety net programs help to put Florida in play, too.
- There are some master classes on how to confront conservative media going on. On a daily basis, Jessica Tarlov works wonders on The Five to expose the audience to facts in a strong, assertive manner. From the administration, Secretary Pete continues to demonstrate what a speech and debate champ can do. And Gavin Newsom’s direct attacks leave marks. Take the lessons from them, candidates.
- No one should have the ability to appeal a verdict or decision solely linked to their ability to pay a fine or a fee. Unfortunately, too many people have limited legal options because they don’t have money. There’s one primary reason my objection doesn’t apply to Donald Trump, though; he has the wealth because of the fraud he was found to have committed. But what Trump’s doing is not an appeal to overturn the judgment; it’s an overt effort to reduce the amount he owes.
- My 2024 Presidential Election Magic 8 Ball currently says, “Signs point to yes.”
- So Mr. Hankey loaning Trump half a billion dollars to fund a bond to appeal a civil judgment without having to sell a property doesn’t disqualify him from office but someone buying a Hunter Biden painting is enough to lead to Joe’s impeachment. Got it.
- Coming to a Fox guest shot soon: “Continuing our conversation with the co-chair of the RNC, Lara, was it DEI or cancel culture that made consumers buy Beyonce’s album and not yours?”
- One of roughly six mentors I’ve had in my life, John Barth was someone in my education whose impact I did not understand until years later. I never had a class with him, but spent hours in his office discussing my projects (which were being produced by the department he ran). During my final year, he was my faculty advisor. He allowed me to leave my mark, however shallow, on the university’s hallowed halls, which were later etched deeper by others, and I’m thankful for that opportunity. I’m sure he made his mark on many, both as an author and a teacher. Godspeed.
- Conservative jurists like Thomas, Alito and Cannon make people distrust the legal system when they clearly don’t follow the rules the (capital C) Courts have established. And the Northern District of Texas did nothing to repair its reputation by refusing to follow anti-judge-shopping steps recommended by a Roberts-led commission. Justice for some; more for others.
- Our ruff-ly 80-pound dog met his 11-pound canine cousin from the West Coast during a relative’s visit last week, and it went pleasantly seamlessly. It helped that they were both older, mellow dogs.
- The only “anti-immigrant” argument that sways me: if we had stricter immigration laws, we likely wouldn’t have Junior, Ivanka and Ewic.
- Trump/Fox hyping RFK Jr. is going to bite them in the ass because Kennedy is only going to pull conspiracy theorists and career anti-establishment grumps from Trump. And it would be lovely if the Kennedy family’s political involvement faded into the sunset.
- Overall we are an impartial house when it comes to peanut butter: Jif, Skippy, Peter Pan, and various natural brands have all stocked our shelves. But I prefer smooth and my spouse opts for chunky. Either is good for sandwiches, but apple slices scream for smooth.
- Please don’t be like Trump. Just… don’t, please.
