Facebook has removed a post by Donald Trump in which the republican candidate for president asserted that the seasonal flu is more fatal than the coronavirus, CNN reports.
The post stated that during flu season, more than 100,000 people may die, and that “we learn to live with it.” Trump is apparently unaware that people who die don’t “live with it.”
The worst recent flu season in the US was 2017-18, when an estimated 61,000 died. Coronavirus has killed 250% more people in just seven months. No flu season in the 21st century has reached 100,000 fatalities in the US.
A similar post Trump made on Twitter earlier today has been tagged with a fact check: “This Tweet violated the Twitter Rules about spreading misleading and potentially harmful information related to COVID-19. However, Twitter has determined that it may be in the public’s interest for the Tweet to remain accessible. Learn more.”
