Remember when conservatives were fond of telling professional athletes and entertainers to “just shut up and [sing, play, wrestle, etc.]” who voiced political opinions? Of course, that’s only for people protesting police abuse or highlighting racial inequity in the justice system or supporting LGBTQ rights. When you’re a conservative, they’ll give you a blowhorn.
Case in point: NFL football player Harrison Butker, the outspoken conservative punter for the Kansas City Chiefs. Per the Associated Press, Butker was the keynote speaker at the commencement at Benedictine College, a private Catholic college in Atchison, Kansas. After four years of hard work, their graduation address consisted of a professional ball-kicker telling them that the most important title the women in the class can have is “homemaker,” while blaming “dangerous gender ideologies” for many of societies woes.
“While COVID might have played a large role throughout your formative years, it is not unique,” he told the crowd at the school, located about 60 miles north of Kansas City. “The bad policies and poor leadership have negatively impacted major life issues. Things like abortion, IVF, surrogacy, euthanasia, as well as a growing support for the degenerate cultural values and media all stem from pervasiveness of disorder.”
