The Transportation Safety Administration reported it screened a record 2.95 million travelers on Friday, a record number of daily airline travelers and a sign that Americans are set for a busy summer season, CBS News reports. The previous record of 2.9 million was set on the Sunday after Thanksgiving last year.
AAA said an estimated 43.8 million people will travel to a destination this holiday season, a four percent increase from last year. “We haven’t seen Memorial Day weekend travel numbers like these in almost 20 years,” Paula Twidale, AAA senior vice president Paula Twidal said in a statement. “We’re projecting an additional one million travelers this holiday weekend compared to 2019, which not only means we’re exceeding pre-pandemic levels but also signals a very busy summer travel season ahead.”
