A California factory operated by Los Angeles Apparel that converted to make face masks has been shut down due to a coronavirus outbreak that has killed four and infected 300, according to KTLA News.
Located in south Los Angeles, the factory was ordered shut down by county health officials for “flagrant violations” of COVID-19 guidelines and protections.
The company didn’t report the outbreak, as required by law, and inspectors shut down the location upon learning of the rash of cases. Businesses are required to report if three employees contract the disease.
After an inspection on June 26, county health officials closed the factory and gave the company detailed steps required to reopen. The company chose instead to hire an entirely new batch of garment workers, and obstructed officials efforts to inspect the property.
When public health officials were able to re-inspect the property, they found the company was in gross violation of COVID policies and ordered the factory shut Friday.
