The nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates, which organizes the presidential debates and establishes the rules for the events, has announced that it will alter the rules for the upcoming debate on Thursday, cutting the opponent’s microphone when a candidate is making his two minute statement at the opening of each of the six segments, the Associated Press reports.
The rule was put in place because the first debate, on September 29th, devolved into a display of dysfunction, with republican incumbent Donald Trump repeatedly shouting over both Democratic nominee Joe Biden and Chris Wallace, the guy sitting at the moderator’s desk.
The rule will likely draw complaints from the Trump campaign, which already whined about the announced topics for the debate. Trump has repeatedly claimed the CPD is favoring Biden, even though the chairman of the CPD is a former chair of the republican National Committee.
