Former President of the United States Jimmy Carter died at the age of 100 at his home in Georgia on Sunday afternoon, his son Chip told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Carter, who defeated Republican Gerald Ford in the 1976 election only to be defeated by Ronald Reagan after a single term, was known in his post-presidency as a major leader in charitable efforts such as Habitat for Humanity and as an elder statesman who advocated for world peace, particularly in the Middle East.
