Two of the nation’s largest big box stores, Walmart and Sam’s Club, will require all shoppers and employees to wear masks at all their stores nationwide starting July 20th to slow the spread of the coronavirus, according to USAToday.
In a post on the corporate website, the COOs of the two brands, which are both owned by the Walton family, said, “We know some people have differing opinions on this topic. We also recognize the role we can play to help protect the health and well-being of the communities we serve by following the evolving guidance of health officials like the CDC.”
Previously, the chain had a store-by-store policy based on local government regulations and recommendations. With this move, Walmart and Sam’s Club join other national retailers like Starbucks and Best Buy who require all customers entering their businesses to wear masks.
“We know some people have differing opinions on this topic. We also recognize the role we can play to help protect the health and well-being of the communities we serve by following the evolving guidance of health officials like the CDC,” the company post states.
Innumerable viral videos show people refusing to wear masks having tantrums in stores that required masks. Donald Trump, along with various conservative pundits, trolls and administration officials, have undermined the safety of masks to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
