The US Supreme Court rejected an opportunity to hear a case regarding an Oregon’s school district’s decision to allow a transgender student’s ability to choose to use a bathroom matching his gender identity, CBS News reports.
The SCOTUS decision effectively upholds the Ninth Circuit Court’s decision in favor of the school district, Dallas School District No. 2. A group of parents from the school, supported by conservative organizations, wanted to appeal the Circuit Court’s decision to the nation’s highest Court.
The case revolved around a transgender boy who wanted to use the boys’ lavatory at his high school. The school board created a policy to allow the boy to use the bathroom and gym locker room matching his gender identity. The school argued that the objections of the parents were “misconceived” and that the case is moot given that the student has since graduated.
